BREAL Zeta bolsters growing team with key credit analyst appointment

17 Aug 2020

Charlie Hodgson has joined BREAL Zeta Commercial Finance in the role of credit analyst to augment the growing specialist asset-based lending (ABL) team. BREAL Zeta offers structured ABL facilities up to a £150m hold level that provide working capital and corporate structuring solutions to mid-market businesses.

A qualified accountant, Charlie brings extensive business, financial and portfolio analysis expertise to BREAL Zeta CF, as well as significant restructuring, risk and corporate finance experience, having served in a number of roles at RBS ABL, ABN AMRO Commercial Finance, PwC, Barclays and Deloitte. Charlie graduated from Cambridge University with a Classics Degree (MA and BA Cantab).

As a credit analyst at BREAL Zeta, he will be responsible for working with the business development team, investors and management, analysing and structuring complex mid-market transactions and managing the end-to-end credit and due diligence process.

Commenting on his appointment, Charlie said: “The team which is being assembled at BREAL Zeta is second to none and I’m excited to be joining them at this time. Banks are finding themselves increasingly constrained by rules on regulatory capital, leaving mid-market businesses underserved and underfunded. BREAL Zeta is perfectly placed to provide the financial firepower to transact larger and more complex deals, precisely at a time when businesses need greater flexibility and support from their funders.

Key to this enhanced level of support is the ability to structure bespoke solutions to meet the event-driven or circumstance-driven requirements of individual clients. BREAL Zeta doesn’t employ a tick-box approach to credit, neither is it hamstrung by inflexible credit policies.”

He continued: “Being able to link up with a global credit fund and have the ability to finance and shape different parts of the capital structure also provides BREAL Zeta with a significant competitive edge.”

Kevin Yates, Risk Director, comments: “An analyst of Charlie’s calibre is an immensely valuable addition and a perfect fit to the BREAL Zeta team and we are delighted to welcome him on board. The challenges, opportunities and drivers facing mid-market businesses and their lenders are becoming increasingly complex. Charlie’s analytical expertise and restructuring experience will add significant value to our clients, our team and our progressive growth strategy.”
